E-Waste Management

Electronic waste or e-waste describes discarded electrical or electronic devices. Used electronics which are destined for reuse, resale, salvage, recycling, or disposal are also considered e-waste. Informal processing of e-waste in developing countries can lead to adverse human health effects and environmental pollution.

E-waste contains valuable materials such as aluminium, copper, gold, palladium and silver, it also contains harmful substances like cadmium, lead and mercury. In the absence of proper awareness, disposing e-waste in landfill can result in toxic emissions to the air, water and soil and pose a serious health and environmental hazards.

Adverse Effects

The processes of dismantling and disposing of electronic waste in developing countries led to a number of environmental impacts as illustrated in the graphic. Liquid and atmospheric releases end up in bodies of water, groundwater, soil, and air and therefore in land and sea animals – both domesticated and wild, in crops eaten by both animals and human, and in drinking water.

Extended Producer Responsibility

Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India has notified E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2016 and E-Waste (Management) Amendment Rules, 2018. To tackle the flow of e-waste government has introduced the concept of Extended Producer Responsibility and which is mandatory for every producer of electrical and electronic equipment.

G.N Electronics has taken initiative to implement E-Waste (Management) Rules 2016 and will comply with all the applicable laws related to e-wastes.

Eco-friendly innovations and practices for safe disposal of electronic waste have been adopted by Organisation. G.N Electronics is integrating multiple innovations into its business processes for efficient use of resources to contribute to the noble cause of environment preservation for the greater good of the society at large.
